Elaine K. Kao, MD, specializes in obstetrics and gynecology at Ochsner Health. Dr. Kao serves as the medical director for the Women’s Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at Ochsner. She hails from South Carolina where she earned her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating, she came to Tulane University for residency and fell in love with the people, music and vibrant culture of her new home. Dr. Kao has served the Greater New Orleans area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast region for over a decade. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and she is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Her practice focuses primarily on advanced office-based procedures, imaging and minimally invasive surgery. This includes hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, robotic and vaginal surgery, to treat a range of complex gynecologic conditions such as fibroids, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis and ovarian cysts. Minimally invasive approaches aim to lessen the impacts of surgery on your body. These techniques typically lead to decreased discomfort, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times. Dr. Kao practices compassionate, patient-focused medicine with the mission to give every woman the tools she needs to live a full and healthy life.
