Eve Scopelitis, MD, specializes in rheumatology at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a former professor of medicine and director of the rheumatology clinics at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She joined the department of rheumatology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 2006. A native of New York City, Dr. Scopelitis obtained her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, and completed an internal medicine residency at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. This training was followed by a fellowship in rheumatology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. At the completion of her fellowship, Dr. Scopelitis was invited to join the LSU Health Sciences Center faculty. She has been the recipient of many grants and awards, including the prestigious National Arthritis Foundation Fellowship award. Her publications topics include systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases, gout, and osteoporosis, among others. At LSU she was successful in establishing the LSU Distinguished Women in Medicine Visiting Professorship, as well as the annual LSU Women in Medicine Symposium. Dr. Scopelitis is a past-president of the Louisiana branch of the American Medical Women's Association and the Louisiana Rheumatism Society. She has been on the medical advisory board of the Louisiana Lupus Foundation and the Spondylitis Association of America. She is a founding fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and in the subspecialty of rheumatology, and formerly by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.
