Dr. Gretchen E. Ulfers specializes in internal medicine at Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner. As a native of New Orleans, Dr. Ulfers graduated from Cabrini High School and joined the Louisiana Army National Guard for 9 years. Dr. Ulfers received her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University with a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology. She then attended St. Matthew School of Medicine to obtain her medical degree. Dr. Ulfers completed her residency in internal medicine at Ochsner Medical Center with additional training in hospice and palliative care.
Dr. Ulfers is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Hospice and Palliative Care. She is also a professionally certified Hospice Medical Director. She currently runs a transitional care clinic at Ochsner - Kenner with a focus on preventing hospital re-admission for high risk patients who were recently discharged from the hospital. Dr. Ulfers works as the Hospice Medical and Nursing Home Director as well as the Skilled Nursing Facility Medical Director to provide a continuum of care for Ochsner patients who are in a community setting and in various levels of care.
In her spare time, Dr. Ulfers enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 daughters, chocolate lab, and 2 hamsters. She also enjoys attending local ballet and theater events.
