John DeWaard, DO, is a board-certified sports medicine physician with Ochsner Health. He specializes in the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries, concussion care and ultrasound-guided procedures. Dr. DeWaard is passionate about helping athletes and active individuals return to peak performance through customized, evidence-based treatment plans and injury prevention strategies.Dr. DeWaard earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program in Nebraska. He went on to complete a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Henry Ford Health in Michigan, where he provided care for athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional levels, including the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and Wayne State University.He is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. Dr. DeWaard takes a collaborative approach to care, working closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers and other specialists to deliver comprehensive support to his patients.Outside of medicine, Dr. DeWaard enjoys traveling, exercising, golfing and spending time with his dog and family.
