Biography
Jorge C. Garces, MD, specializes in nephrology and transplant nephrology at Ochsner Health. He has expertise in intermittent and continuous dialysis modalities, managing kidney transplant recipients, and selecting kidney donor candidates. Additionally, Dr. Garces provides comprehensive care for various medical needs and kidney and pancreas transplantation complications. He is also involved in the evaluation and selection process for kidney transplantation candidates with end-stage organ failure and manages immunosuppression protocols. Dr. Garces is currently the transplant nephrology fellowship program director and a past co-founder of the General Nephrology fellowship training program. Dr. Garces earned his medical degree from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, in 1989. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). His training includes an Internal Medicine residency at Fitzgerald Hospital/Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia, a fellowship in Nephrology at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and a fellowship in Transplant Nephrology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Garces obtained a designation of Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension Specialist Program in 2011. Dr. Garces is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the American Society of Transplantation (AST), and the American College of Physicians (ACP), and a member of the American Medical Association which enables him to remain updated on the latest medical advancements. Dedicated to addressing his patients' medical needs, Dr. Garces also takes the time to understand their individual concerns and goals. He has been with Ochsner Health since 2002. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling with his wife and daughter, running, and reading historical books. Dr. Garces is fluent in Spanish and English.
