Biography

Julie Neumann, MD, specializes in orthopedic surgery at Ochsner Health with a particular interest in sports medicine and disorders of the foot and ankle. Dr. Neumann offers comprehensive care for ankle, foot, knee and shoulder injuries and conditions. Some examples are Achilles tendon issues, ligament injuries including sprains, fractures, arthritis, rotator cuff injuries, meniscus and ACL injuries, bunions, hammertoes, and heel pain spurs.

Dr. Neumann completed her undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she was a scholarship student-athlete on the women’s soccer team. Dr. Neumann earned her medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During her residency, Dr. Neumann was a member of the medical team for the 2015 Duke Men’s Basketball National Championship team and received the 2016 Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Research.

Dr. Neumann is dual fellowship trained. She pursued her first fellowship in sports medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. She completed her second fellowship in foot and ankle at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Neumann is board-certified in orthopedic Surgery and orthopedic sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. She is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Neumann enjoys competing in triathlons, running marathons and half marathons, and weightlifting. She also enjoys spending time with her three young children. If she is not working out or hanging out with her family, you may find her on the beach, in the mountains, meal prepping or at a concert venue.
