Biography

Mark B, Effron, MD, FACC, FAHA, FCCP, practices cardiology at Ochsner Health. Dr. Effron has expertise in general and preventive cardiology and cardiovascular research, offering comprehensive care for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic coronary artery disease, heart failure and uncomplicated heart rhythm problems.

Dr. Mark Effron received a Doctor of Medicine degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University, and completed a Fellowships in Cardiovascular Diseases at Johns Hopkins and the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health. Following training, Dr. Effron joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins and was the Director of the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiovascular Research Laboratory at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Subsequently, he entered the pharmaceutical industry where his career focused on the use of drugs affecting blood clotting in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Upon retirement from the pharmaceutical industry, he joined the Cardiology Department at Ochsner Health. Dr. Effron is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and in Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dr. Effron is a professor in the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School and is the executive chair of the Ochsner Health Institutional Review Board (IRB). He has been the Principal Investigator at Ochsner for several multicenter clinical trials of cardiovascular drugs and on the leadership team of several trials. Dr Effron has authored or co-authored over 100 peer reviewed papers. His research involves treating blood clots in cardiovascular disease and preventive cardiology with a focus on underserved populations. Dr Effron has been practicing at Ochsner since 2016, focusing on the medical needs of his patients while understanding individual concerns and goals.
