Biography
As an assistant professor at Duke School of Medicine, she was honored for her work in medical education by both the Departments of Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine, including the Duke University Presidential Award, Excellence in Education Award and twice-named Hospitalist of the Year. Dr. Brooks joined the Department of Hospital Medicine at Ochsner in 2021 as an academic hospitalist. She is currently the Vice Chair of Quality and Safety for Hospital Medicine and Associate Vice President of Medical Affairs at Ochsner Medical Center-New Orleans. Her academic appointments include Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School and Core Faculty for the Ochsner Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Brooks is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has been elected fellow in the American College of Physicians and senior fellow in the Society of Hospital Medicine, where she is active on national and regional committees. She has special interests in quality and process improvement, medical education, point-of-care ultrasound and care of the complex patient. She has authored several publications on medical education and the most recent update of core competencies in hospital medicine.
