Dr. Michael Morgan received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge and earned his medical degree from LSU in New Orleans. He completed his internship at Riverside Hospital in Virginia and his ophthalmology residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 1991. Dr. Morgan is board-certified in Ophthalmology, and has been on staff at Ochsner since 1991. Dr. Morgan has a special interest in cataract surgery with the implantation of advanced technology intraocular lenses in order to provide the optimal visual outcome for each patient. These specialty intraocular lenses can (in many cases) eliminate a persons need for glasses. In 2009, he became the first surgeon in the region to perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. His work on canal-based glaucoma surgery has been nationally recognized. His surgical training video can be found on eyetube.net, YouTube and the American Academy of Ophthalmologys website. He is skilled in many different types of glaucoma procedures, allowing him to individualize and optimize the care of each patient. He has lectured on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery at worldwide meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), on more than one occasion. His publications can be found in the multiple journals, including Glaucoma Today, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, the Journal of the ASCRS, and others. In his spare time, he enjoys time with family, playing golf, and music. He serves as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology in the Baton Rouge region.
