Biography

David Stanger, MD, practices neurosurgery at Ochsner Health, where he specializes in treating a wide range of spinal and cranial conditions. He is dedicated to providing patient-centered care, focusing on both conservative, non-surgical treatments and advanced minimally invasive surgical options.

Dr. Stanger earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry with a minor in history from Brigham Young University. He received his medical degree from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in Bronx, New York. He then completed his general surgery internship and neurosurgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, where he served as chief resident from 2010-2011. During his time in Richmond, Virginia, he also completed a one-year fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery and served as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Board-certified in neurological surgery, Dr. Stanger has extensive experience in treating neck and back pain caused by pinched nerves, sciatica, spinal stenosis, sacroiliac (SI) joint disease, and spinal trauma. His expertise includes spinal fusion, spinal decompression surgery, and nerve release procedures for carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes. Additionally, he is highly trained in cranial surgeries, including brain and pituitary tumor resections and the treatment of cerebral hemorrhages.

Dr. Stanger is committed to improving his patients’ quality of life by providing individualized, high-quality care. While he is highly regarded for his expertise in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, he prioritizes non-surgical and conservative treatment options whenever possible, ensuring that surgery is only recommended when all other options have been exhausted.
