Salim Hosein, MD, specializes in bariatric surgery and general surgery at Ochsner Health. Dr. Hosein is a board-certified general surgeon with a focused practice designation from the American Board of Surgery in metabolic and bariatric surgery. Specializing in minimally invasive approaches including laparoscopy & robotics, Dr. Hosein has expertise in primary & revisional bariatric surgery (weight loss), anti-reflux procedures and hernia repair surgeries.

Dr. Hosein earned his medical degree from the Aga Khan University in 2009 before going on to complete his general surgical residency training between Brown University & the Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He subsequently completed his fellowship in advanced GI, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Following years of practice in Illinois, he returned as a staff surgeon at Ochsner Health in 2023. He actively participates in national organizations including the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons and American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
