Biography

William Mangham, MD is a neurosurgeon with Ochsner Health who treats patients in New Orleans, Gretna and Metairie, Louisiana, specializing in endoscopic spine surgery and advanced minimally invasive spine care. He treats a wide range of spinal conditions, including herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, sciatica, nerve compression syndromes, bulging discs, foraminal stenosis, facet joint arthritis, spondylolisthesis, spinal instability and chronic neck and back pain. Dr. Mangham uses leading-edge, minimally invasive techniques designed to reduce pain and improve function. He has a particular focus on avoiding spinal fusion whenever possible through the use of minimally invasive techniques. His services include state-of-the-art procedures such as endoscopic discectomy, microdiscectomy, minimally invasive laminectomy and foraminotomy, as well as percutaneous and minimally invasive spinal fusion.

Dr. Mangham earned his medical degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He completed his residency training and a fellowship in spine surgery at the Semmes-Murphey Clinic and the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee. He is among a select group of spine surgeons in the region offering endoscopic spine surgery as an advanced treatment option.

Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Mangham graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as an officer for more than five years. He completed three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and ultimately commanded a unit of 250 Marines. He was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.
