Dr. Ziad Ashkar is an accomplished physician and healthcare executive with over 20 years of experience in nephrology and internal medicine at Ochsner Health. He has a proven track record of improving quality metrics, implementing innovative programs, and leading medical teams across multiple hospital systems. Dr. Ashkar is passionate about leveraging data and technology to enhance patient care and health outcomes.

Dr. Ashkar is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He has held numerous leadership positions, including chief medical officer, chief of Nephrology, and medical director. He is currently a nephrologist and medical director of Nephrology at Ochsner Lafayette General.

Dr. Ashkar is also a respected researcher and academic. He has served as a principal investigator on numerous clinical trials and has published in peer-reviewed journals. He is currently a research professor at the Informatics Research Institute at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Dr. Ashkar has received numerous awards, including the Internal Medicine Staff of the Year Award and the Dr. J. Robert Rivet Endowed Chair & The Acadian Ambulance Service/BORSF Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair in Health Informatics.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Ashkar is also a talented musician. He is a founding member and keyboard player for the On Call Band, a group of physicians who perform for charitable causes in the Lafayette and Acadiana area.
