Biography

Chip Lavie, MD is a cardiologist at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana, specializing in preventive cardiology, obesity management, cardiac rehabilitation, exercise physiology, and advanced cardiac imaging. Dr. Lavie’s clinical expertise includes noninvasive imaging, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, preventive heart care, and cardiovascular rehabilitation. He treats a wide range of conditions related to heart disease prevention, obesity-related cardiovascular risk, and lifestyle-based interventions. Born and raised in Louisiana, Dr. Lavie attended Jesuit High School and Louisiana State University. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, completed an internship and residency at Ochsner, and a cardiovascular fellowship at the Mayo Clinic Foundation Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Lavie is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and has been on staff at Ochsner since 1989. He is an active researcher with more than 1,900 medical articles and book chapters, author of The Obesity Paradox, and serves in editorial roles for The Ochsner Journal, Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, where he was previously editor in chief for over a decade, and Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where he has served as an associate editor and cardiovascular section editor for over two decades. He is also a professor of internal medicine at the University of Queensland Medical School – Ochsner Health.
Dr. Lavie treats patients across the New Orleans area, helping people manage cardiovascular risk, optimize heart health, and improve quality of life through both medical and lifestyle-focused interventions.
