Charles Leithead, MD is a vascular surgeon and medical director of the Ochsner Vein Clinic at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Leithead provides care for patients across the greater New Orleans region, including the Northshore and parts of Mississippi. As medical director of The Ochsner Vein Clinic, providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of vascular conditions, including aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), spider veins and varicose veins. Dr. Leithead is experienced in both open surgical procedures and minimally invasive techniques to restore blood flow and improve vascular health.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Dr. Leithead earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minor in French from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and completed an integrated vascular surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He holds Physician in Vascular Interpretation certification from the Alliance for Certification and Advancement and has clinical and research interests in limb salvage and improving patient outcomes.

Dr. Leithead has been recognized for his excellence in teaching and patient care, receiving awards such as the William D. Jordan Jr. Award of Excellence and Integrity, the Ochsner Medical School Teaching Excellence Award for the Department of Surgery, and recognition as a finalist for Ochsner Health System Physician of the Year.

He is dedicated to individualized, patient-centered care, focusing on improving quality of life through both surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Dr. Leithead treats his patients like family, ensuring they feel supported and confident throughout their care journey.
