Dr. Claudia Kelso is a medical professional, originally from Colombia, with proficiency in clinical, administrative, and academic disciplines. She received her Medical Degree from the "Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira" in Pereira, Colombia, and her post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. In addition, she has a masters in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which she obtained as a Fulbright Scholar.Dr. Kelso has accumulated a series of experiences internationally in inpatient, outpatient, public health, and medical education. She was the Dean of two Schools of Medicine in Colombia and was nationally recognized for successfully advancing the reputation of the programs and their academic and medical excellence. She is now the Medical Director for International Health at Ochsner and provides clinical services as Internal Medicine Physician in primary care, executive health, and international health.Dr. Kelso has a passion for clinical and community medicine. She loves her patients and lives for them. She promotes healthy lifestyles and enjoys establishing long-term relationships with her patients. In addition, she supports multiple wellness and cultural diversity activities and is certified as a bilingual English / Spanish provider and Medical Interpreter.During her professional experience, Dr. Kelso has led multiple interdisciplinary activities. For example, she worked as Chief Resident at her Internal Medicine program as a front liner during the COVID pandemic. In addition, she promoted numerous outreach activities in Texas to educate the professional and lay community on diverse health topics.Dr. Kelso feels Ochsner is the perfect fit for her work style. She enjoys working in an environment of diversity, respect, and camaraderie. Furthermore, she believes in the vision and mission that leads the path for the Ochsner staff.Claudia is happily married to a true "southern boy" from Tennessee and is the mother of two children and one puppy dog. She is passionate about her family, patients, friends, nature, dogs, gardening, playing classical guitar, and dancing.
