Ian P. O'Connor, MD, specializes in internal medicine at Ochsner Health. He is a native of Southeast Louisiana and received his Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and Master of Science in medical genetics and genomics from Tulane University. Before medical school, he worked in therapeutic genome editing in Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area and Memphis.



He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 2022, followed by internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, completed in 2025. He provides comprehensive care for adults, with clinical interests in prevention, metabolic health, diet and nutrition and the integration of genetics and genomics into primary care.



He especially values relationships with patients and continuity of care across life. He is dedicated to managing the medical needs of his patients and aligning care with their individual concerns and goals through shared decision-making.



Dr. O’Connor is board-certified in Internal Medicine and participates in the American College of Physicians to stay current with advances in medicine. Outside of medicine, he enjoys time with family and friends and exploring cities and nature.
