Jairo I. Santanilla MD, practices adult critical care medicine at Ochsner Health. Dr. Santanilla has expertise in offering comprehensive care for various adult critically ill medical needs, including intubation, central venous access, arterial access for monitoring, paracentesis and thoracentesis, and others. He has a special clinical interest in mechanical ventilation, sepsis, shock and resuscitation. He is dedicated to addressing the medical needs of his patients while understanding individual concerns and goals. Dr. Santanilla has been board-certified in critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) since 2008 and by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in emergency medicine since 2007. Dr. Santanilla has been practicing at Ochsner since 2008, and he served as medical director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit from 2015 through 2023. He has served on multiple committees involving patient care and safety, including Sepsis, Resuscitation/Code and Procedural Safety. Dr. Santanilla earned his medical degree in 2001 from Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed a combined emergency medicine / internal medicine internship and residency at LSU Health Sciences Center / Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and he served as a chief resident during his final year. He went on to complete a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF). Outside of medicine, he enjoys local festivals, music and sporting events.
