Laura Bloom, MD, MS, MBA, specializes in acute care surgery at Ochsner Health in New Orleans. Dr. Bloom has expertise in the surgical management of traumatic injuries to the chest, abdomen, pelvis and extremities. She also has expertise in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the treatment of acute disease processes affecting the gastrointestinal tract, biliary system and abdominal wall as well as the long-term surgical management of these disease processes. She is also a specialist in the intensive care of critically ill surgical patients.

Dr. Bloom actively participates in multiple associations to stay updated on medical and surgical advancements, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Medical Association, the American Medical Women’s Association and the American College of Medical Genetics.

Dr. Bloom was selected by her professors and peers for lifetime membership to the Gold Humanism Honor Society, the Golden Key International Honour Society and the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.

Dr. Bloom is dedicated to addressing the medical and surgical needs of her patients, recognizing each patient as an individual with their own unique goals and concerns. She believes in a patient-centered approach to medical and surgical decision-making, and she actively engages with the loved ones of her critically ill patients. She joined the acute care surgery team at Ochsner Medical Center - New Orleans in 2025, and she is a member of the team who initiated the first trauma center at Ochsner Health.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys swing dancing, improv comedy and the great outdoors.
