A Department of Ochsner Medical Center
Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner was established to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the detection and treatment of breast disease in a serene and beautiful environment. The Center is committed to providing women who experience breast problems with a swift diagnosis in a state-of-the-art facility staffed by a concerned, understanding and compassionate team of breast care specialists.
We are excited to announce that the Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner has relocated to a new building located at:
The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center
1515 River Road
Jefferson, LA 70121
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Breast Center Team is comprised of compassionate and caring individuals who understand and acknowledge the concerns, anxieties and fears that many women experience when faced with the possibility of breast cancer. Fellowship trained surgical oncologists and radiologists that specialize in the evaluation and management of breast disease work together in the same facility. A surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist make up each treatment team, who develop the treatment course that best meets the needs of each patient. By working in close proximity, the Breast Center fosters synergy and efficiency that is unachievable in any other setting.
The Tansey Breast Center provides the highest quality breast screening services through risk assessment, early cancer evaluation, advanced imaging techniques and biopsy procedures, many of which can be done on an outpatient basis. More than 30,000 screenings and diagnostic mammogram studies are conducted annually, along with 8,000 biopsies. Moreover, the Tansey Breast Center is re-accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a quality program of the American College of Surgeons.
Our team is actively involved in breast cancer research, helping to develop new and more effective methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating breast disease. The Center has become a leader in breast cancer research in the Gulf South and has participated in studies on both the prevention of and the treatment of breast cancer. Past research has had far-reaching positive effects on breast cancer treatment, and studies underway offer the promise of even greater changes.
The Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner has again been granted a three year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The Tansey Breast Center is the only breast cancer program in New Orleans accredited by the NAPBC.
The Breast Center was named after Mrs. Lieselotte Tansey, a breast cancer survivor and Ochsner patient whose generosity made the Breast Center a reality. Mrs. Tansey resided in Germany and came to Ochsner for her healthcare. She realized the value of having a place where women can get a swift diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer in a pleasant environment. It is because of her support that we are able to fulfill the mission of the Breast Center.

The new center is bright and modern. The techs, doctors, & staff treated me with so much kindness. Their attitude was they were there to take care of me. Their voices were gentle. They explained each step of the process. Next to the diagnostics, my comfort was the most important. I was there for additional screening & an ultrasound to determine if treatment would be needed.

In September 2022, after I started to have sharp pain in my right breast, I did a mammogram and everything seemed fine. But one of my nurses practitioners, insisted I do an MRI due to pain and other factors that seemed a bit concerning. She saved my life. And then my pretreatment journey started. It is at times overwhelming, but my team of doctors, nurses and other hospital stuff, are nothing short of amazing. Even though I am just at the beginning of my cancer treatment, and I am terrified, I know my life is saved because of my medical team. ❤️
Our Response:
We're glad to hear it! We certainly aim to be the best! We really appreciate your review, thank you for choosing us as your healthcare provider!
