The Ochsner International Services team offers seamless care designed specially to the patients’ needs and cultures. Our goal is to give you the best possible experience.

Our international patient coordinators provide complimentary concierge services to support you throughout your visit. From your arrival at Ochsner Health to departure, a dedicated team member will serve as your personal contact, helping with logistics, scheduling and any questions to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

Your international patient coordinator will:

• Confirm your medical appointments and procedures

• Serve as your advocate and interpreter during medical visits

• Explain your care plan and physician instructions

• Assist with hospital admissions and follow-up appointments

• Coordinate dietary, cultural, and religious accommodations

• Help you access your MyOchsner patient portal

• Guide you through Ochsner hospitals and clinics

• Recommend restaurants based on your preferences or dietary needs

• Locate nearby services like grocery stores, banks, and pharmacies

  You can reach your coordinator and our staff five days a week, with on-call support available for emergencies. During your stay, you’ll enjoy the convenience of having your doctor, pharmacy, hotel, dining,and the international office all in one location. Our reception area also offers comfortable amenities and a business center for personal use.

What to bring during your stay at Ochsner

Please bring any registration forms or medical records, reports and radiology images that were requested by your care team and not already sent. It is recommended to bring the additional items:

• A list of your medications — including doses and why you take them. You can also bring the original bottles to your first appointment (or use your smartphone to take a picture of all your medication labels).
• Your insurance information card or Medicare card
• Your prescription drug insurance card and preferred pharmacy name and address
• A copy of your living will or advance directive, so it can be placed in your medical record.

We recommend leaving the following items at home:

• Jewelry or sentimental, irreplaceable items
• Large amounts of cash
• Expensive technology devices

If you forget something or can't fit everything in your suitcase, you'll find convenient shops on every Ochsner campus, stocked with useful and personal items.

How to prepare for your appointment

Upon your arrival at Ochsner, you will register at the international office and be assigned an International Patient Coordinator to assist you throughout your visit.

International patients can request an appointment at any Ochsner Health location by contacting the international department. Please send an email to international@ochsner.org, or contact us by phone at 504-842-3719.

When you call, you will speak with an international patient coordinator on our team who will guide you through the appointment scheduling process. Be prepared to discuss the following:

• Your medical history. If you have a copy of your medical records in English, we will let you know how to send them to us.
• Your health insurance information. You will need to provide a copy of your insurance card. If you do not have health insurance, we can discuss your preferred method of payment.
• Members of your family who are also interested in scheduling appointments. We will make all the necessary appointments for you and your family.

Ochsner Health offers 24/7 interpreter services for patients without charge and in every language. Ochsner medical interpreters are experienced and can attend appointments, translate educational material for patients, and offer other necessary help. Whenever patients schedule an Ochsner appointment they will be asked if they need interpreter services.

Additionally, Spanish-speaking Ochsner staff in appointments, patient registration and financial matters can assist patients and their families before, during and after their visit.

Medical records are not required but are highly recommended, as they help our physicians better understand your condition and guide your evaluation and treatment. Records must be translated into English, and while Ochsner does not provide translation services, we can recommend reliable agencies. If your records are needed, we will provide instructions for sending them during your appointment scheduling call.

If you have health insurance, Ochsner will file claims on your behalf or provide forms for you to submit. If you're uninsured or your international insurance isn't contracted with Ochsner, a pre-care deposit is required before your first appointment. Additional deposits may be needed if further services are recommended. At the end of your visit, you'll meet with an International Financial Counselor to review charges and discuss any remaining balance. We accept payment through health insurance, embassy sponsorship or self-payment, and our international financial team will help you understand your costs and coverage.

New Orleans has several consulates located at short distance from Ochsner Medical Center and we will gladly arrange for transportation to anyone of these, if necessary.
