Joseph Impastato, III, PA-C, practices sports medicine at Ochsner Health. Joe is a native of New Orleans and a graduate from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a science degree. His life has been dedicated to biology, the human body and medicine since then. He joined Ochsner Health as a physician assistant in 2013, and then the Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute team in May 2016. Joe has experience in several areas prior to his current position. He was previously a PA in the Ochsner Emergency Department for three years where he gained experience in urgent and acute care issues. He has decades of patient care expertise at different levels and worked in medical sales and local pharmacies for years. His past diverse experience has enabled him to appreciate multiple aspects of medicine and improve patient care and treatment.

Joe works independently but also primarily assists fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Misty Suri. He assists Dr. Suri with peri-operative care, surgery, and helps to extend clinic care for him. Dr. Suri's team has been together for nearly a decade. This stability helps them provide the highest level of patient and surgical care. Dr. Suri and Joe are involved in several studies on the forefront of rotator cuff repair advancement, including rotator cuff augmentation with the Arthrex Cuffmend dermal allograft and the shoulder tuberoplasty procedure for irreparable rotator cuff tears.

Some of his areas of work include: injury diagnosis, management, and treatment; viscosupplentation injection (ie. euflexxa/synvisc); surgical and non-surgical biologic treatment therapies; Iovera nerve ablation; PRP injection; BMAC injections; arthroscopic surgery assistance particularly shoulder and knee surgery. Joe has assisted Dr. Misty Suri in more than 1,500 shoulder surgeries in their time together.

Joe is heavily involved and specializes in treating athletes of all levels. He assists in sports medicine team coverage for several local high schools and colleges across the Greater New Orleans area.
