Founded in 1958 as a nonprofit, general acute care facility, Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital is now a 35-bed, full-service hospital, caring for the residents of Vermilion Parish and beyond. Our location provides easy access to healthcare where our emergency department physicians and nurses provide 24/7 care when you need it most.

In 2020, Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital was named as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals for best practices in patient satisfaction. This is the fourth time Abrom Kaplan was named to the list, and we are the only hospital in Louisiana to achieve this ranking.

The hospital’s partnership with Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) enhanced its cardiology services and offers a virtual cardiology program. The facility also offers the only digital mammography machine in the area.

Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital offers a skilled nursing and rehabilitation program. The program focuses on restoring health and independence to patients who need extra assistance. It is designed to offer medical and/or necessary rehabilitation services to patients whose needs cannot be met in an inpatient hospital rehabilitation program or in the home setting.

Our 24-hour emergency room is staffed with experienced physicians. They, along with a team of nurses, have been trained in advanced industry standards of care, including stroke treatment and cardiac protocols. These protocols provide for rapid treatment and transfer, if necessary.

Respiratory therapy

Our respiratory therapists are dedicated to providing proficient and compassionate care to our patients on an emergency, inpatient and outpatient basis. Respiratory therapists are available in the emergency department and inpatient unit 24 hours a day.

Inpatient and outpatient surgical services

Ochsner Abrom Kaplan has two surgical suites and a post-anesthesia care unit. Technological advances enable us to perform a wide variety of minimally invasive procedures, allowing most of our patients to leave the same day.

General Information

Hospital visiting hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

Visitor guidelines: One visitor per patient, 18 and older, may stay overnight. Overnight visitors must stay in the room. No more than two visitors may occupy a patient's room at one time.

Emergency department: The emergency department at Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital is a 24-hour, specialized department treating patients with acute or chronic medical conditions or injuries. X-rays, CT scans, laboratory services and respiratory therapy are also available around the clock.

Outpatient services:

Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 

At Ochsner Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, we strive to provide the highest level of care. If a patient requires additional are, we will transfer them to one of the Ochsner Lafayette General facilities or another facility of their choosing.

We care about our patients even after they leave our hospital. Our nurses call every patient that is discharged to follow up on issues they may have encountered. This could include filling prescriptions, any unusual post-discharge pain or symptoms or answering questions about discharge instructions.
