Ochsner St. Mary Hospital is located in Morgan City, Louisiana, and offers quality medical services to the people of St. Mary Parish and surrounding areas. Ochsner St. Mary is an acute care 165-bed hospital which offers an extensive range of services including a 24-hour emergency room, intensive care unit, inpatient behavioral health, and both inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy. Multiple surgical specialties include general surgery, pain management, cardiology, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and podiatry. We also offer many advanced medical technologies including MRI, digital mammography, low-dose CT, full service lab and wound care services.

Ambulatory Surgery

When surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, Ochsner St. Mary combines all of the safety and security of our inpatient surgical unit with the convenience and comfort of at-home recovery. Located on the fifth floor, Ambulatory Surgery offers a comfortable environment for pre and post op procedures.

Behavioral Health Services

The Behavioral Health Unit at Ochsner St. Mary provides a caring, supportive environment specially designed to meet the emotional needs of adults, 18 and above, specializing in care of the aged. Through a structured plan of individual counseling, group therapy, coordinated activities and family support, patients are given the opportunity for renewal of social, physical and mental skills.

Cardiopulmonary

The Cardiopulmonary Department offers services to the critically ill patient as well as routine surgical and medical patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. Patients receiving respiratory care are usually treated in their rooms with the exception of the diagnostic procedures that are performed in the stress lab.

Radiology

Ochsner St. Mary's Radiology department provides a range of diagnostic and testing procedures done both inpatient and outpatient. Included are general radiology, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, digital mammography and nuclear medicine. The department is located on the first floor of the hospital.

Emergency Department

If a medical emergency brings you or a loved one to Ochsner St. Mary, we want you to know that our Emergency Department combines the latest technology with a highly skilled medical and nursing staff. We will do everything we can do for you as quickly, and as appropriately as possible and will do our best to make you comfortable. Our Emergency Room is open 24 hours a day.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Center

This newly constructed 10-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit offers intensive physical rehabilitation to patients that have suffered significant physical impairments as a result of disease or injury. Diagnoses that typically qualify for inpatient rehabilitation include stroke, hip fracture, brain injury and amputation. Located on the seventh floor, the Rehabilitation Center at Ochsner St. Mary is staffed with physicians specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation along with physical and occupational therapists as well as speech-language pathologists, case managers and nurses specialized in rehabilitation.

Intensive Care Unit

When constant medical monitoring and care is required, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ochsner St. Mary, located on the second floor is available. Highly specialized patient care is provided 24 hours a day. The scope of care in our ICU provides medical and surgical nursing care requiring astute observation and treatment in collaboration with your physician.

Laboratory

The Laboratory Department at Ochsner St. Mary is a full service laboratory and is located on the first floor. The laboratory is open 24 hours per day, and provides comprehensive services including diagnostic testing in the areas of chemistry, therapeutic drugs, coagulation, serology, blood banking, microbiology, hematology, urinalysis and immunology. Services are provided to inpatients, outpatients, emergency department, home health and nursing home patients.

Medical Records-Health Information

In the Medical Records - Health Information Department, patient privacy and confidentiality are our top priority. As a patient at Ochsner St. Mary you can be confident that your personal medical information will never be released without your written consent. Located on the second floor, the Medical Records - Health Information Department is where transcription and other functions concerning patient medical records occur. The Health Information Department is staffed from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Medical records can only be released with the proper release of information form completed.

Medical/Surgical Department

Medical/Surgical Department of the Ochsner St. Mary is a forty-four-bed unit providing a high level of care for patients with special medical and surgical needs.

Rehabilitation Services (Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy)

Helping you recover as fully as possible following injury, surgery, illness is the goal of our Rehabilitation Department. Physical therapy services are available Monday -Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. From sports injuries to chronic pain, stroke related conditions, skeletal problems, balance issues or sprains; Ochsner St. Mary has the resources to treat these conditions and more.

Surgery Services and Anesthesia Services

Should you come to Ochsner St. Mary for a surgical procedure, trust that you will receive the very best care from the moment you enter the door to the day you return home. Your physician will instruct you as to specific preparations prior to your surgery including needed lab work or other testing. If anesthesia is required, an anesthesia team member will talk with you prior to surgery to explain the anesthesia process. All patients requiring anesthesiology services are assessed by a member of the anesthesia team prior to the procedure. Family members will be directed to a comfortable waiting area located on the second floor. A member of the surgical team will update them on your progress and will notify them when you are moved to the recovery room. At that time, your physician will update your family. Once you have moved to the recovery room, you will be closely monitored until you wake up from the anesthesia. After the recovery room, you will be moved to a patient room for the remainder of your stay. Upon discharge, please arrange to have someone available to drive you home and remain with you for a while.
