Sports Medicine Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeons

At the center of the Sports Performance Network are our orthopedic physicians who specialize in sports medicine - Brian Etier, MD, Paul Williams, MD and Otis Drew, MD. These physicians partner with athletes throughout the state and are the team physicians for Acadia and Vermilion Parish high schools as well as some private high schools in the region. Dr. Drew is also the physician for the UL Ragin' Cajuns' men's and women's basketball teams.

Diabetes & Wellness

Ochsner Lafayette General Diabetes & Wellness Clinic is here to help you be your best self while managing your diabetes. Here, you are our focus. We provide you with the tools and skills needed to manage your health and achieve wellness. We will work closely with your primary care physician as you progress throughout the program. You will be empowered to be an active member of your healthcare team.

How Does It Work?

Your primary care physician will refer you to the Ochsner Lafayette General Diabetes & Wellness Clinic. Our team will conduct a full assessment of your goals and needs. Training consists of three fun and engaging group classes where you are encouraged to bring a support person. This could be a family member or the person you speak to most often about your health. We communicate your progress to your doctor throughout your time with us.

Our training program includes:

• Managing your diabetes
• Becoming and staying active
• Healthy eating behaviors
• Healthy coping
• Activity, food and blood sugars
• Understanding your numbers and medications
• Problem solving
• Stress management
• Reducing your risk of diabetes complications

Ochsner's Smoking Cessation Services

Ochsner Lafayette General's smoking cessation program is designed for anyone looking to become tobacco- or nicotine-free. We offer assistance with any type of vape or tobacco product including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vapes, dip or snuff. The program provides a safe space for patients to discuss beneficial strategies and tips to help with cravings and addresses nicotine addiction as a physical dependence and habit.

It also offers free individual or group counseling both in-person or via telephone. Treatment may include the use of smoking cessation medications like nicotine patches, gum or lozenges, Wellbutrin and Chantix. The program length is usually four months, depending on the severity of the habit.
