Ochsner Lafayette General’s smoking cessation program is designed for anyone who wants to become tobacco- or nicotine-free. We offer support for all types of tobacco and nicotine products, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vapes, dip and snuff. The program provides a supportive environment where patients can learn strategies to manage cravings and understand nicotine addiction as both a physical dependence and a behavioral habit.

The program includes free individual or group counseling, available in person or by phone. Treatment may also involve smoking cessation medications such as nicotine patches, gum, lozenges, bupropion (Wellbutrin) or varenicline (Chantix). Program length typically lasts about four months, depending on the severity of the addiction.

Ochsner Lafayette General Diabetes and Wellness Clinic is here to help you manage your diabetes and improve your overall health. You are our focus. Our team provides the tools and skills you need to take control of your health, build healthy habits and achieve long-term wellness. We also work closely with your primary care physician throughout the program to support your progress.

How does the program work?

Your primary care physician will refer you to the Ochsner Lafayette General Diabetes and Wellness Clinic. Once enrolled, our team will complete a full assessment of your needs and goals. Training includes three engaging group classes, and we encourage you to bring a support person, such as a family member or someone you regularly discuss your health with.

We communicate your progress to your doctor throughout your time in the program.
