With a holistic, patient-centric approach, Ochsner MD Anderson’s expert team provides comprehensive care to patients. A multidisciplinary team of doctors, clinicians and support specialists offer services to treat the entire person. Support professionals include nutritionists, nurse navigators, social workers, physical therapists, acupuncturists, and others. We offer groundbreaking research and innovative therapies, including access to select clinical trials available to eligible patients.
The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, located in New Orleans, expanded in 2020 adding 115,000 square-feet increasing Ochsner's capacity to offer high-quality cancer services and advanced clinical research.

The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center addresses an important focus of the Ochsner multidisciplinary team approach: the social, physical and emotional impacts of cancer treatment.
Our patients benefit from a collaborative approach to cancer care by a highly skilled team of medical oncologists, radiation and surgical oncologists, oncology nurses and social workers. Our Center for Innovative Cancer Therapies Program is the region's only program dedicated to bringing early phase clinical trials to the Gulf South. A research partnership with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center ensures that clinical and basic research into cancer prevention and treatment receives the highest attention. Additionally, Ochsner is a member of the Louisiana Cancer Consortium.
Ochsner offers integrative oncology services — therapies that are designed to be used together with traditional medical treatment to boost quality of life — to patients throughout their cancer journey. Patients have access to a meditation space, and services including physical therapy, yoga, acupuncture and a gym.
The cancer center includes 58 personalized and semi-private patient chemo infusion stations against the beautiful, relaxing backdrop of the Mississippi River. It also has dedicated infusion and clinic spaces for bone marrow transplant patients.
The Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center is located inside The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center to further integrate the multidisciplinary treatment approach.
The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center also has a hematology oncology clinic, a chemotherapy infusion clinic, an area for radiation oncology and a prostate center. A multidisciplinary clinic in the building gives patients access to specialists and sub-specialists trained to meet the challenges presented by cancers.
The cancer center also includes the latest location of an Ochsner Health O Bar, a retail experience offering the latest in cutting edge, interactive health technology to help patients seamlessly manage health and wellness.
Awards & Accolades
- 2023: The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans earned reaccreditation from the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI). This three-year accreditation certifies that Ochsner’s oncology practices meet the highest quality standards for cancer care, along with each of the initiative’s evidenced-based core standards in chemotherapy treatment and patient care. This ASCO reaccreditation illustrates the delivery of the best, most comprehensive care to patients.
- 2023: The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans earned reaccreditation from the American College of Radiology's (ACR) Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation. This three-year certification guarantees the cancer center meets specific practice guidelines for radiation oncology, staff qualifications and training, high-level equipment standards and quality improvement programs.
