At Ochsner Children's Hospital, we're more than just a hospital. We're part of a larger family that cares deeply about the safety and well-being of children everywhere. We're proud to be a member of Solutions for Patient Safety. This is an incredible network of children’s hospitals across the nation, all working together with one goal - to make healthcare safer and better for children.

We're also a part of a wonderful organization called the Children’s Hospital Association. This group brings together more than 200 children’s hospitals in the United States. Why? To spark innovation in children's healthcare. This means we're always learning, improving, and bringing the very latest knowledge and techniques back to our hospital. What does this mean for you? It means that we can offer cutting-edge care right here at home. It means that we're constantly training and educating our team with the latest information. Being in the hospital may be overwhelming or scary for kids and their families. The Ochsner Children's Hospital care team includes Certified Child Life Specialists, a team of experts who focus on helping children and families navigate through the complex feelings and situations that may come with illness, injury or hospitalization.

Food, lodging and shopping are close by for children and families who need to stay close to Ochsner Children's Hospital for multiple days or weeks. Lodging options include Ochsner’s Brent House Hotel, the nearby Ronald McDonald House and several local hotels with discounted rates for families receiving care at Ochsner.

Ochsner Pediatrics provides more than individualized, expert care. We also offer a robust regional healthcare network with more than 25 locations throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and the Gulf South to meet all of your family’s needs.

Every Ochsner doctor is electronically connected to each other so they can collaborate across departments and locations to help your baby, child or adolescent get the highest quality care possible.

If you move to another part of the region or need to add a specialist to your child’s care team, Ochsner’s comprehensive network of doctors makes the change seamless.

When adolescents and young adults are ready to transition from pediatric to adult-focused care, the collaborative care network at Ochsner makes it easy to switch to another Ochsner doctor, and the new doctor will have immediate access to your child’s medical records. All your child will need to do is make an appointment.

In 2018, Ochsner’s pediatric intensive care unit was awarded the Children’s Hospital Association’s national patient safety award.

Ochsner Pediatrics was the first facility in Louisiana to perform:

  • Implantation of ventricular assist devices in pediatric patients

  • In-utero surgeries

  • Pediatric heart transplants

  • Pediatric liver transplants

We remain the only facility in the area to offer pediatric heart transplants and other advanced heart procedures for babies and children, and we continue to have the largest pediatric liver transplant program in Louisiana.

What is a virtual visit?

A virtual visit is a secure video appointment with your doctor via your smartphone or tablet. This allows patients to conduct a traditional office visit with their provider electronically through their MyOchsner app without leaving home or work.

How do I schedule a virtual visit with my pediatrician?

Follow these steps to schedule an appointment online as a virtual visit in the MyOchsner portal. You may also call 1-866-624-7637 to schedule a pediatrics virtual visit.

What are the technical requirements for a virtual visit?

You must have a mobile phone or tablet with a front-facing camera and iOS or Android operating system. Download the MyOchsner app on your device and select Ochsner Health as your healthcare provider. You can find the MyOchsner app in the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play Store (Android).

How do I start a virtual visit?

Before your visit, complete the ePre-Check in the MyOchsner app to verify your insurance, demographics and sign the Telehealth Consent Form. Click on your appointment to view the details and allow access to your camera and microphone. Select ‘Begin Visit’ in your appointment to enter a virtual visit waiting room until your provider joins the appointment. View the complete steps here.
