Biography

Vani Vijayakumar, MD, practices diagnostic radiology at Ochsner Health. Dr. Vijayakumar, also known as "Dr. Vani", has a background of internal medicine and radiology, with a focus on nuclear medicine both in diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. She did her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and fellowship in nuclear medicine at Michael Reese Hospital / University of Illinois at Chicago. She did an additional year of fellowship focused on Nuclear Oncology at UIC, in Chicago. Previously, she was the Chief of Nuclear Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago; University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas; and University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. She is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. She has over 80 peer reviewed publications. She has actively participated in many clinical trials, especially focused on children and is a member of Children Oncology Group. She is also a member of many other national committees, including in the Radiological Society of North America and American College of Radiology. She takes pride as a mentor of medical students and residents and was awarded many Best Teacher recognitions. Her current focus of patient care, mentoring and research is on Precision Oncology with a focus on Radiobiotherapy and Theranostics.
