Ochsner Medical Center, located on the West Bank, is a 180-bed general medical and surgical facility that cares for severely or critically ill patients. It also offers select outpatient services.

Located on the mighty Mississippi River, the medical center is home to a multi-disciplinary team including more than 500 board-certified or board-eligible physicians, a highly trained nursing staff and other skilled allied-health professionals.

Our team is proud to provide technologically advanced services to the community. Using the MyOchsner patient portal, a robust electronic medical record system which can follow a patient anywhere in the Ochsner system, patients have access to their medical records at their convenience.

The West Bank campus is also home to Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Ochsner Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center are clinically integrated to advance care even further, right here in Louisiana. With a shared mission of ending cancer, we are providing cancer treatments that are the most advanced in the nation. It features a six-bed outpatient chemotherapy administration area that was built to meet the needs of patients requiring chemotherapy, blood transfusions, injections and other cancer-related drug therapy.

Also, advanced wound care services with a multi-disciplinary approach to healing is a unique service for the West Bank. Ochsner West Bank also offers Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery for the most precise and minimally invasive surgical procedures for hip and knee replacements.

Additionally, several established services such as the family unit, NICU and emergency department are continuing to grow, becoming leaders for the West Bank region.

Parking

Parking is available free-of-charge in the hospital parking garage.

Emergency Department patients and their family members can also park in the lot at the back of the hospital near the Emergency Department and Patient Registration entrances.

Special Services, Hard of Hearing and Interpretive Services

Services and equipment available for the visually impaired and others in need of special services include:

  • Syringe magnifiers
  • Flat magnifiers
  • Large print materials such as communication cards and pictographs
  • Diabetes education materials
  • DVD's with detailed audio content for diabetic education
  • Braille indicators are throughout the facility for elevators
  • Directional signage
  • Handicapped parking spaces

Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank is required by law to provide interpreter services to those who are deaf or who have Limited English Proficiency free of charge. If you are scheduling hospital procedures or appointments in advance, you should have your scheduler determine whether a patient or possibly a family member accompanying the patient needs an interpreter or other auxiliary aid or service.

Dining

Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank houses Café 504, a cafeteria that offers several dining choices, including a grill, hot food, sandwiches and salads. The Cafeteria is located on the first floor of the facility and is open Monday - Friday.

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

PJ’s Kiosk (located in the front lobby) 

Hours: 

  • Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Saturday - Sunday from 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Gift Shop

Our gift shops carries a wide selection of gifts and products for any occasion, including balloons bouquets, flower and plant arrangements, cards and gifts for all ages, from new babies to grandparents.

Proceeds from sales at the Ochsner gift shops benefit research at Ochsner.

Food and Nutrition Services

Food and Nutrition Services can accommodate special food requests. Please notify the department's staff in advance, if possible, for any specific dietary needs such as kosher or vegetarian meals or other special food requests

Patients will also enjoy the Sodexo’s At Your Request service for meals. This comprehensive room service allows patients to choose and order their meals at their convenience. Each meal is freshly prepared to order and are delivered to the room within 30-45 minutes.

Pastoral Care Services

Pastoral Care Services are available through our hospital chaplain. Chaplain and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion provide sacramental ministry and prayer. For our patients a visitors, we have a chapel on the 2nd floor of the hospital adjacent to the Family Unit Waiting Room. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the chaplain's office at 504-391-8819 or 504-595-8393.

Television, Telephone and Wifi Services

All hospital rooms are equipped with a television, telephone with amplifier capability and wireless Internet access. Those requiring services for hearing impairment can request sign language interpretation services, telecommunication devices (TDD's), assistive listening devices (ALD's) and other aids and services at no additional cost. In addition, all televisions are equipped with closed captioning capability.

Our Services

If you are deaf or hard of hearing and would like the use a qualified interpreter or other auxiliary aids and services, please call Guest Relations at 504-391-5126, or the TDD line at 504-207-1226. When requesting a qualified interpreter, please give us three days advanced notice if possible. These services are provided free of charge.

Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center

Ochsner Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center announced a partnership to create Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center in southeastern Louisiana. Cancer patients in the region now have access to cancer treatments that are among the most advanced in the nation.
