Ochsner Medical Center, located on the West Bank, is a 180-bed general medical and surgical facility that cares for severely or critically ill patients. It also offers select outpatient services.
Located on the mighty Mississippi River, the medical center is home to a multi-disciplinary team including more than 500 board-certified or board-eligible physicians, a highly trained nursing staff and other skilled allied-health professionals.
Our team is proud to provide technologically advanced services to the community. Using the MyOchsner patient portal, a robust electronic medical record system which can follow a patient anywhere in the Ochsner system, patients have access to their medical records at their convenience.
The West Bank campus is also home to Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer. Ochsner Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center are clinically integrated to advance care even further, right here in Louisiana. With a shared mission of ending cancer, we are providing cancer treatments that are the most advanced in the nation. It features a six-bed outpatient chemotherapy administration area that was built to meet the needs of patients requiring chemotherapy, blood transfusions, injections and other cancer-related drug therapy.
Also, advanced wound care services with a multi-disciplinary approach to healing is a unique service for the West Bank. Ochsner West Bank also offers Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery for the most precise and minimally invasive surgical procedures for hip and knee replacements.
Additionally, several established services such as the family unit, NICU and emergency department are continuing to grow, becoming leaders for the West Bank region.

My scheduled surgery was right after the holidays and the pre op, surgery/ anesthesia team and post op were fantastic they did everything possible to minimize the intense pain of my operation. I had to stay overnight and the care staff did what was expected but they did seem to lack the extraordinary care and comfort that I have experienced here in the many operations I have had. Here I guess it may have just been post holiday back to the grind but our little Westbank hospital has risen to be a gem and should strive to keep that image all the time. Thanks to everyone for my safety and care. JG

Had to go into the E.R. today. So far I’ve been moved into an isolated room and forgotten about…twice. Not acceptable at all. That being said, the Dr. and the nurse with the vital cart both had great bedside manner, so it wasn’t all bad.

This is a really nice hospital...my first time here and it didn't feel like a hospital. It had a very French quarter vibe, the pictures on the wall were beautiful, you can smell the aromatic PJ'S coffee in the air and every one was smiling. This place did not have a somber atmosphere like some hospitals do. 💣

simply the best! Best doctors, best nurses, best facilities. Was in so much pain and was seen right away and taken into room within 10-15 minutes. Doctors and nurses were very professional and informative.

I was there in emergency 06/18/2023, I could not have had a better experience. The entire staff that assisted me were all incredibly professional and caring. The areas I was in were all very clean and organized.

They’re not the worst. Also not the best Also not the best. You’ll probably spent more time in waiting room than actually being seen by a doctor. I’ve spent an entire evening in the ER just to be misdiagnosed, prescribed aspirin and sent home. Went to a different hospital and they found the real issue and were able to perform necessary lifesaving surgery. Every hospital has its flaws. This has been my primary hospital primarily due to location/convenience. If there were another option with good standing i’d definitely make a switch and give a try

I was brought here from a nearby mental health facility after reporting pelvic pain to one of the nurses or therapists there. I was also approaching 6 months of pregnancy. I didn't really think much of the pain I was having. It was bearable, didn't make me think of contractions, and I really chalked it up to extreme anxiety because the facility was horrible. But, understandably, the facility didn't want to take a risk, so they sent me to Ochsner to be checked out by labor and delivery. The staff quickly found out that I was experiencing contractions, likely from dehydration since I was too stressed to get water at the behavioral health facility. Everyone was very good about keeping myself and my husband informed about the condition. I was put on a magnesium IV, saw a very friendly OB, Dr. Vuong, several times, and was provided information about what to expect if the baby is premature by the premie specialist. Since I was there from a psychiatric hold, I had to have a sitter in the room at all times. They were very sweet ladies who chatted with me and treated me like a person, rather than like a psych case. Nurse Tina is an absolute angel. She worked hard to help make contact with my psychiatrist and Ochsner's remote psychiatrist to see if I could be released to a different mental health facility or even to go home after I completed treatment at Ochsner - contractions stopped, and baby was fine! - so that I could be in a less stressful environment which was obviously recommended following my condition. Thanks to her and another lady I didn't get to meet (don't know her name, just know my psychiatrist mentioned another lady she spoke to), I was able to discharge home and relax there. Thanks especially nurse Tina. Nick, baby Lily, and I appreciate you. All of the staff we interacted with were great though.
