Why Choose Ochsner American Legion Hospital?
We are continually adding new facilities to further help our patients lead healthy lives right here at home. Some of these new innovations include a new patient tower that increases the overall number of patient rooms and a new OB/GYN facility, which offers services from preventive care and pregnancy to post-natal care and more.
Ochsner American Legion Hospital provides several specialty services. Our cardiac catheterization lab offers multiple cardiac procedures that would only be available in larger hospitals. Capable of performing nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms and coronary angiograms, our cardiac catheterization lab provides high-quality care closer to home.
Administrative hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Visitor guidelines: One visitor per patient, 18 years or older, is allowed to stay overnight. Children under age 12 may visit in patient rooms, with adult supervision. It is asked that the adult supervisor ensure that the visiting children do not disturb other patients. No more than two visitors may occupy a patient’s room at one time.
Our outpatient pharmacy serves all our patients, especially those who need assistance paying for their medications. We aim to provide immediate medicinal care when you are available, improving your recovery time.

This department is equipped with updated, modernized imaging machines, including two GE Logic-7 ultrasound machines, a new Phillips Bright View Nuclear Camera, a Radrex-I Dual Detector Digital Radiography System and two PACS systems. We're the only hospital in southwest Louisiana with breast-specific gamma imaging, one of the most advanced diagnostic tools for mammography. Through multiple clinical studies, this type of imaging has demonstrated a high sensitivity for identifying earlier stage cancers as small as 3mm and has consistently provided a specificity of 92% - significantly helping to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions.
The respiratory department is now able to complete Pulmonary Function Tests, saving patients the inconvenience of travelling out of town for this service.
Pulmonary function tests are a group of tests that measure how well a patient's lungs work, including how well they actually breathe and how effectively oxygen is transported to vital parts of the body. These tests are usually ordered if you are having symptoms of lung problems, as part of a routing physical or to assess how well your lungs are functioning before undergoing surgery.
