Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics houses four hospital-based LSU Health Graduate Medical Education programs that provide primary care and acute care services to the patients of Acadiana. The LSU Family Medicine and LSU Internal Medicine residency programs serve the inpatient setting and outpatient clinics with highly dedicated medical staff faculty. We also have two hospital-based LSU fellowship programs that require an additional year of training: geriatrics and sports medicine.
While our Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine and Geriatric Fellowship programs are home to nearly 60 residents/fellows, we also have approximately 25 additional residents and fellows that rotate at Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics. These residents and fellows join us from their respective LSU Health Sciences hospital-based programs and while learning from our expansive pathology and phenomenal physician teaching faculty, they become part of our medical community. They rotate from two to four months within the following areas:
- Surgery
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Otolaryngology
- Cardiology
- Ophthalmology
- Orthopedics
We are a teaching site to a host of medical students that come to us from cities all across Louisiana, Mississippi and beyond.
Advantages of a Teaching Hospital:
- Teaching hospitals are well known for improving the health of the communities they serve.
- The academic setting encourages a team approach to patient care.
