Heart catheterization lab

Cardiac catheterization is an essential diagnostic and treatment tool for conditions such as congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, heart valve disorders, arrhythmias, congenital heart defects and pulmonary hypertension.

Procedures are performed in our specialized heart catheterization, or cath, lab, where physicians use advanced imaging to assess and treat blocked or narrowed blood vessels. A common procedure is an angiogram, where a thin catheter is inserted through an artery in the leg and guided to the heart to evaluate the coronary arteries and blood flow.

Many procedures are outpatient, allowing patients to return home the same day. Sedation or anesthesia may be required depending on the procedure. Heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure and oxygen levels are monitored throughout.
