Since Ochsner Lafayette General took over management of Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics in June 2013, several services and clinics were added and reinstated. The hospital saw an increase in the number of operating rooms and a fully renovated emergency department. Cardiology services were enhanced through a partnership with Cardiovascular Institute of the South, and outpatient diabetes nutrition education classes are also held on a monthly basis.

24-Hour Emergency Department
The Emergency Room (ER) at Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics is a newly remodeled and expanded facility offering state-of-the-art equipment and emergency expertise. We maintain a 20-bed, 24-hour emergency department and are able to provide the treatment necessary to stabilize patients of all ages in an emergency situation. If a higher level of care is required, we will transfer to the most appropriate facility.
Ancillary services such as laboratory, CT, X-ray, ultrasound and respiratory therapy are also available 24 hours a day. We take pride in customer service and in providing a positive healing environment. Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics received Press Ganey’s prestigious Guardian of Excellence Award in Patient Experience.
Audiology
A variety of audiology services are available to patients at Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics, including Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, hearing evaluations, middle ear analysis, vestibular testing, otoacoustic emission testing, medicaid pediatric hearing aids, in-house swim molds and cochlear fittings. Outpatient nutrition services
Services include individual nutrition assessments and group nutrition education classes by a team of licensed and registered dietitians for improving overall health and nutrition management of chronic diseases. Outpatient pharmacy
Prescription processing and medication therapy management are available. We accept most commercial plans, most Medicare plans, and all Louisiana Medicaid plans. Patient assistance is available for uninsured, qualifying patients to obtain their medications.

Radiology

Respiratory therapy

Therapy
We offer pediatric occupational therapy that identifies problems and improves a child's independence and participation of daily skills. Our speech therapy program addresses speech, language, social and swallowing or feeding disorders in children and adults. A physician's order is required for all services. Smoking cessation
The Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative provides free, evidence-based smoking cessation services at University Hospital & Clinics. We offer several options for patients and employees, including:
- Individual face-to-face behavioral counseling; sessions upon request
- Group behavioral counseling; classes held several times a month, call the number below to register
- Referral to the state's Quitline for free telephone or web-based counseling
- Referral to the Louisiana Smoking Cessation Trust program for free counseling and medication
- Assistance with obtaining a prescription for cessation medication from a person's primary care doctor to help them quit
