Megan Brooks, MD, practices hospital medicine at Ochsner Health. Dr. Brooks received her bachelors in biology at Georgetown University and her Medical Doctorate and Masters in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Duke University. Dr. Brooks spent the early part of her career as an attending physician in Hospital Medicine at Duke Regional Hospital, where she served as the medical director of the Duke Regional Interprofessional Education Unit and the COVID-19 inpatient unit. As an assistant professor at Duke School of Medicine, she was honored for her work in medical education by both the Departments of Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine, including the Duke University Presidential Award, Excellence in Education Award and twice-named Hospitalist of the Year. Dr. Brooks joined the Department of Hospital Medicine at Ochsner in 2021 as an academic hospitalist. She is currently the Medical Director of the Med-Surg Unit and Vice Chair of Operations for Hospital Medicine at Ochsner Medical Center-New Orleans. Her academic appointments include Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School and Core Faculty for the Ochsner Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Brooks is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has been elected fellow in the American College of Physicians and senior fellow in the Society of Hospital Medicine, where she is active on national and regional committees. She has special interests in quality and process improvement, medical education, point-of-care ultrasound, and care of the complex patient. She has authored several publications on medical education and the most recent update of core competencies in hospital medicine. Before medicine, she studied the hunting behavior of predatory paper wasps. Dr. Brooks is always happy to convince people of the vital role paper wasps play in the ecological web.
