Dr. Sawyer received his master’s in Community Counseling from Minnesota State University Moorhead and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Memphis. He worked as a psychologist in University Counseling Centers while receiving his post-doctoral master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He became licensed as a Medical Psychologist and started working from a dual psychotherapy/medication management model. Dr. Sawyer worked at Tulane University as a Medical Psychologist before starting at Ochsner Psychiatry in Mandeville. Dr. Sawyer considers himself a generalist, treating a variety of mental health issues, but specializes in LGBTQ+ issues, young adults, and multicultural competency. Dr. Sawyer keeps busy raising two young daughters and enjoys running, reading, and traveling.
