Welcome to the Kidney Transplant Rotation at the Ochsner Transplant Institute

Schedules

  • Regular Schedule for the rotating fellows: Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Clinic schedule:
    • Post-transplant clinic: Monday and Wednesday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Pre-transplant clinic: Tuesday: 8:50 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Transplant Meetings Conferences:
    • Patient care Conference: Wednesday 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. (BH transplant conference room, third floor)
    • Transplant selection meeting: Friday 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (BH transplant conference room)
    • Morbidity and Mortality (patient safety) and Transplant Infectious Disease grand rounds: Friday 12 p.m, once a month
      • This conference will include an ID transplant conference, invited speakers, case discussion, journal clubs and webinars. The conference typically will occur after the morning clinic. These conferences will take place on the third floor BH building.

Expectations

Fellows rotating in our transplant department are expected to:

  • Be ready for teaching rounds at 9:30 a.m.
  • Attend the clinics on time
  • Fellows in clinic are expected to communicate with transplant nurses regarding care plan for patients evaluated in clinic. Clinic encounters and progress notes are expected to be filed as soon as possible.
  • Attend the scheduled conferences
  • Provide contact information to the Ochsner operator including personal cell phone
  • Respond to consults promptly. It is strongly suggested to check KTS and KTM transplant census periodically during the day to avoid delays in consults to primary services.
  • Communicate efficiently to primary teams and transplant staff
  • Participate actively during teaching rounds
  • Interact with transplant coordinators, transplant fellows (surgical and medicine fellow) and consulting physicians
  • Attend the conference during the Ochsner rotations (including pathology conference if time permits)
  • Fellows are expected to attend transplant lectures scheduled on Wednesdays at 12 p.m. 
  • Fellows are expected to read papers sent in prior email and to maintain a reading conductive to learning according with ACGME core curriculum. Please ask for electronic versions of suggested readings.
  • Our transplant nephrologists are committed to teaching and education. It is strongly encouraged that the rotating fellows to take advantage of this time at Ochsner to improve your skills in the field of nephrology and prepare for the Nephrology Board Certification exam.
