Quit Smoking with the Help of your Phone

Smoking kills 400,000 people every year in the US alone. There are many ways to quit smoking, and here are some mobile smart phone apps for that purpose. Studies show that majority of quitters have a difficult time to maintain their routine and sometime go perverse during detoxification. Your phone and these apps can be here to help.

Since iQuit - (Free) iPhone
If you're after an uncomplicated interface that lets you know very clearly what you have gained, Since iQuit will serve nicely. You enter the date and time you quit smoking, how many cigarettes you smoked daily and how much it cost you. The front page tells you exactly how long it has been since you kicked the habit, in years, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. The Money Saved page tells you how many cigarettes you have not smoked and how much money you have saved. 

iQuit - (Free) iPhone
Different quitting methods work for different people; for some, the gradual approach is the best one. iQuit offers you a timer that tells you when you can go have a smoke, gradually increasing the time between cigarettes and a goal. When you load the app up for the first time, you can input your habit stats, how many cigarettes you smoke and how much it costs you. An in-app Facebook connection lets your friends follow your progress and guilt you into staying quit. 

Quitter - (Free) iPhone
Another really simple app. An interface tells you how many days it has been since your last cigarette and how much money you have saved, based on the information you feed the app when you first boot it up. If you fall off the wagon, you can restart by tapping the "information" icon and re-entering your new details. It does, however, assume that there is only one generic 20-cigarette pack size, which can give you wrong information if you buy packs of 25 or 40. 

NoSmokingLife - (Free) iPhone
There is no timer element to NoSmokingLife, but it does allow you to enter an accurate pack size, how many cigarettes a day you smoke, and how much a pack will cost you. It will then calculate how much money you save and how long you have extended your lifespan. You can also set yourself a target -- by quitting smoking, you are allowing yourself to save up for a reward of your choice. It could be anything: a new watch, a gym membership, or even saving for its own sake. 

Livestrong MyQuit Coach - ($0.99) iPhone
The MyQuit Coach application from Livestrong.com creates a personalized plan to help you quit smoking. This physician approved app is easy to use and helps you to evaluate your current status, set attainable goals, and adjust preferences according to your needs. Either choose to quit smoking from day 1 and ditch the cigarettes straight away, or gradually decrease your daily nicotine intake and cut down at a steady pace. The app features personalized inspirational photos, motivational tips, and progress charts that will provide you with all the willpower and help that you need. 

Quit Smoking Now With Max Kirsten - ($7.99) iPhone/iPad
Max Kirsten is a world-renowned, highly-qualified clinical hypnotherapist, who became The Times newspaper's leading ‘self-help' expert in 2009. Max brings his famous ‘Quit Smoking Now' program to iOS, which has already helped thousands of people to kick the habit. The app is packed full of great features to help you quit, such as an introduction video and getting started session, the main ‘Quit Smoking Now' program, a booster session to keep you going strong, a quit smoking e-book and guide, a smoking calculator, and a whole lot more. It may be a little more expensive than the other iOS apps that aim to help you quit, but for little more than the price of a packet of cigarettes, this proven quit smoking program could help you put a stop to an unhealthy habit. 

Smoke Out - ($0.99) iPhone
Smoke Out is another handy little application that's great at keeping track of your progress with many motivational features. Keep track of how long it's been since your last cigarette, calculate (approximately) how much of your life you've saved by not smoking, see how much money you've saved, and view excerpts and links to pages that detail the benefits and offer support on cutting out cigarettes. What's great about Smoke Out is you can post your accomplishments and stats to Facebook and Twitter and update your friends and family on your progress for some much-needed motivational boasting.
